Kargenc Club
Sport club
Our Association was established in Karasu of Sakarya City in the sixth December of 2010 as a youth association. It consists of volunteer teachers, students, academicians, and young people. The main purpose of our association is to encourage young people to have healthy living activities, to keep them away from bad habits, to support their inclusion in the decision-making process, and an active and responsive social environment. Besides, we try to create an atmosphere that young people can feel creative, free, and pleased in order to keep them away from the environment with full of bad examples and role models, and we support young people to discover their own abilities.

As an association, we provide art, theater, music, and sports courses for young people and students. We also organize events such as street festivals, cultural visits, exhibitions, collaborated meetings, music, and dance organizations with volunteer charities. We even take the support of local people and families to create a bigger effect on these matters. At the same time, we are conducting studies that guide young people towards their talents. In cooperation with the Karasu Municipality, we organize hiking and anti-obesity activities.
Moreover, in our association, we have two karate coaches and one of them gives free karate courses for kids in our local area. The other one is a lecturer at Sakarya University and she gives karate courses at the department of coaching education.

In addition, healthy eating and regular exercise are important for people of all ages to live a quality life. This is the cause of obesity, which should be taken into consideration by each individual in a personal sense and which causes serious health problems if not taken into consideration. For this reason, we try to create an environment that encourages young people to exercise and we want them to gain natural eating habits. We organize beach volleyball and beach football tournaments with Karasu Municipality every year. In addition, we encourage young people to live a healthy life with trekking activities, traditional food days, village visits, traditional games sharing days and awareness activities. We organize offline days to prevent excessive use of technological devices (mainly mobile phones), which are the main cause of inactivity.

Objectives of our organization:
❖ To guide young people to healthy diet alternatives and healthy living activities,
❖ To develop alternatives to keep young people away from harmful habits,
❖ To encourage the participation of young people in the decision-making processes, (We have cooperation with the governmental institutions in our province in this regard)
❖ To develop behavior against hate speech among young people,
❖ To conduct studies and guidance to enable young people to exercise regularly or to do sports actively,
❖ To struggle against marginalization and prejudice in all areas,
❖ To organize activities to make better the current situation in the field of environment,
❖ To raise awareness about the size and expected consequences of climate change for everyone in our province,
❖ To guide the talented children to art activities and to open courses.

Our Interests:
  • Sport Injuries:
Sport injuries are inevitable during a sport activity, so this situation makes us take into consideration injuries for better sport activities. In cooperation with Sakarya Provincial Directorate of National Education, we provide trainings about sport injuries for Physical Education Teachers and coaches who work with kids and young people. We keep statistics of sport injuries of young people together with Physical Education Teachers by following tournaments realized at the school. As an example for this aim, we have already been implementing a project named Three- Points Shot to Health to prevent basketball injuries at the level of beginning to basketball (especially for kids aged 7-12).

  • Healthy life and being active:
We accept the truth that obesity and inactivity are the biggest threats for humanity and main reasons for many illnesses. For this reason, we try to create an environment that encourages young people to do exercise and we want them to gain natural dietary habits. Every year we organize beach volleyball and beach soccer tournaments in cooperation with Karasu Municipality. Moreover, we help young people to avoid inactivity with hiking, traditional food days, village visits and awareness works, and we prevent the overuse of electronic devices that lead young people to many health problems. For example, we have been implementing our project named Bocce for Everyone from 7 to 70 years to make the women who live in rural area active in their social area and to increase their awareness about healthy living.

  • Social Inclusion:
We organize tournaments for all people in our province. These tournaments help young people who don’t have opportunity to do sport reach sport activities; and the tournaments gather together people from the different segments of society. We organized some Erasmus+ Youth projects (Include Me, Dance Against Strangeness, Creative Inclusion, Explorando…) related with refugees and integration of young people with fewer opportunities (via art, sport, dance…). We care to include people and students with fewer opportunities in social life, and we use sport as a tool to include them in social life. For example, we organize sport tournaments and hiking activities with the support of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality. Also, our project related with bocce aims to include students and women who live in rural area in social life.

  • Traditional Games:
We are interested in traditional games and we organize street festivals to play traditional games for kids in the local area. Also, we organize some activities related with traditional games in cooperation with Directorate of National Education to keep young people active in the social life. We explore traditional games and give some training to teachers in the primary schools. Related with traditional games, we are implementing Erasmus+ sport project named ‘Traditional Games are Meeting’; and we introduce different games to the students as sustainability of this project.

  • Sport teams:
Our association is active in amateur sports, and every year we attend International Euroijada Sports Games, which 20 countries attend. We have active teams in basketball, futsal and volleyball. Moreover, we will have family teams including mother and kids in Yuvalıdere Village for our bocce projects.

  • Environment and Recycling:
As members of the Association, we follow all national and international conferences on environment, climate and recycling. In this regard, we aim to produce not only awareness projects but also scientific projects and contribute to the awareness process going on. We all know about the commitments made by countries at the UN Climate Movement Summit in September 2019 on climate issues. We plan to work to move to a better spot as the commitment of civil society in Turkey. We also conduct cooperation negotiations with NGOs working on this issue. We participated in the 16th Istanbul Biennial with the theme “Seventh Continent’’ which was opened in September and November 2019. In October 2019, we implemented an environmental themed project titled ‘Touch, Change, Live’’ Ekrem Yüce, the Mayor of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, who participated in the Sapanca Lake cleaning event, announced that he initiated an environmental movement with our project. This enabled us as an NGO to be involved in decision-making in the environment and climate processes.

Furthermore, we produce creative artistic products from recycled materials and we organize an exhibition from these products in the region which is separated as recycling street in the city park in Karasu. We encourage young people ad students to protect the beauty of Karasu, which is famous for a long beach, with support of Karasu Municipality. We do cleaning activities on the coast of Karasu and walking activities in Acarlar Longozu, which is a floodplain forest, with teachers and young people in our association. We work on posters and panels about environmental clean-up and recycling in the schools. We prepare service papers that draw attention to environmental cleanliness and recycling with our young people in our association and we try to raise public awareness by distributing them to the restaurants in the city.
