IDUS works closely with Balkan Speleological Union and Tourism Chamber of Macedonia. IDUS invests continuously in the human capital and built strong expertise in environment, GIS, disaster risk reduction, emergency management and volunteerism. As result of IDUS work in the last two decades, IDUS has established a proactive network with many governmental agencies, national parcs, nongovernmental organizations, professional associations and academia.
From 2012, Exploring Society Ursus Speleos was appointed manager of the protected area Natural Monument “Slatinski Izvor” by the Municipality of Makedonski Brod, and with this, the organization was listed in the few regional positive examples of an NGO successfully managing a protected area. With this, from 2012 on, the organization widen its aspects and fields of work from caves to:
• Environment protection and raising awareness
• Climate change and disaster risk reduction
• Working with youth
• Sustainable development and green jobs
• Adventure tourism
• Safety and rescue etc.
The reference list of IDUS contain many relevant reports and studies related to assessment of human impact on the environment, strategic assessment of the impact, analysis of protected areas, analyzes related to speleology, projects for nature protection, raising awareness, sustainable development, adventure tourism etc.
IDUS has personal and group speleological equipment for vertical speleology (rope, carabiners, helmets, etc.), field vehicle, rescue equipment, camp equipment, communication devices etc. IDUS has average 30 members (volunteers) of two profiles per year. The Scientific research profile refers to academia, medicine doctors, social science graduates, researchers, instructors for speleology, logisticians, paramedics and project managers. The Sports Profile is composed by instructors for horizontal and vertical speleology, instructors for cave rescue, cave guides, speleologists apprentices and speleologists.
