Women’s Soccer Club “Prishtina”, a non Profit Organization, established by a group of volunteers with support of US Embassy in Prishtina and United Nation, providing free football coaching classes for over 100 girls, with an aim to become the first club in the region as a role model on generation equality and women’s empowerment through football.
We believe that through sports besides health benefits, we can have a huge impact in our society on changing minds through the voice of our girls from the team.
Poverty, heavy domestic demands, safety concerns, lack of accessible transportation, inadequate sport and recreation facilities, and few opportunities for physical education and skill development are among factors that get in the way for our girls to participate in physical activity and sports.
This would serve also as an education platform, connecting girls with the information, skills and strategies they need to excel in sport.
The Sports program that we are implementing can help to reduce the social isolation and exclusion that many girls and women experience, help them to build social networks and opportunities that can help to address their marginalization in society. Awareness raising on empowerment of women and girls in football -Interest for participation in women’s sports is on the highest level in Kosovo and globally. This presents an opportunity to increase this growth of interest and visibility by promoting and building a strategy for women’s participation in sports in Kosovo. These gender stereotypes are restrictive and harmful because they prevent individuals from fulfilling their potential and realizing their dreams.
In addition to providing role models, sport can be an effective platform to provide women and girls with leadership skills they can transfer to other domains, such as civic engagement or professional life and teamwork.
Strength, perseverance, commitment, team spirit, solidarity, negotiation, and respect for others — these are values that are central to sports but also to the pursuit of gender equality and women's empowerment.
It has been recognized that sport can be a force to amplify women's voices and tear down gender barriers and discrimination. Women in sport defy the misperception that they are weak or incapable.
