Universitario Bilbao Rugby

UBR is a Rugby Club from the city of Bilbao (Spain). It was born in 1969 with the foundation of the Bilbao Engineers team, which played in the regional league and participated in various university championships, achieving first place in the Tournaments held in Seville and Bilbao in the years 72 and 73, silver medals in the Tournaments of Granada and Alicante in the years 72 and 76, and bronze in Barcelona and Granada in the years 74 and 80.

Actually, UBR has a sports project based on the quarry, as a base and guarantee of the spread of rugby and the continuity of its teams. It has a school rugby club, Bilbao Errugbi Eskola, which began operating in 2003 and today manages the categories of school sports in the town of Bilbao. The Club currently has about 400 federative and school players.

• The School, Bilbao Rugby Eskola, consists of three mixed teams per category in school sports from sub-8, sub-10, sub-12 and two mixed teams in the sub-14 category. It has become one of the benchmark rugby schools in the Basque Country, especially our U-14 team, which was proclaimed Champion of the Basque Country 2017 and runner-up in the Basque Country.

2018. The increase in players and school-age players has been exponential. Serve as a reference that currently plays in our Eskola almost 100 boys and girls under 10 years of age.

• The Club has teams in federated categories, two teams in mixed U-16 and one in U-18, as well as two senior men's teams in the national category, Division of Honor B and 2nd Basque league respectively.

• The team of veterans, Unigans, aims to give the possibility of remaining active to players who, due to the inexorable passing of time, are not physically fit to play in the federated category, but who still maintain the illusion and desire to continue practicing rugby.

• The Club also has a team made up of mothers of male and female players, who train weekly and thus have the opportunity to get to know and enjoy first-hand the sport practiced by their sons and daughters.

In addition to the aforementioned, with the firm intention of promoting the values of rugby and, especially, the values of social inclusion and work for equality between men and women, UBR bet in 2016 on the creation of two new sections to the that we consider part of our strategic axis of the Club:

• A senior women's team, through which some 35 young women between the ages of 16 and 22 develop our sport with enthusiasm and determination. Our women's team currently plays in the Basque League.

• We also have an inclusive team in which young people with different intellectual disabilities play side by side with other Club players.
